Weighing-in
Wrestlers weigh in one day before the tournament and get their skin checked for contagious infections or disorders. They should be at the scale in their full singlet (not cut or torn) with bare feet. Fingernails and facial hair should be trimmed. It is forbidden to use plastic bags, saunas or other forms of artificial weight loss to "make weight".
Proper Attire
Wrestlers will present themselves on the mat with their singlet in either red or blue, or from their club or school. They cannot be shorter than mid-thigh and underwear must be worn underneath their singlet. The shoes must be ankle height with relatively smooth soles and the laces must be tucked away, either into the shoe or with tape. A head gear is permitted as long as its not abrasive. Hair must be tied back with an elastic or ribbon. It's forbidden to wear jewellery, chew gum, wear bandages (unless approved), and be too sweaty or greasy.
The Mat
The mat should be 9 meter in diameter: with a 1 meter passivity zone, a 7 meter wrestling area, and a 1 meter circle in the center. It should be disinfected before the tournament so that it's not contaminated. High school wrestling allows an 8 meter wrestling area, but it's inadequate for national tournaments.
